A run to the doctor

Gaven gave me a scare last Friday when he had diarrhea and had been congested for a few days. When I picked him up from Kaity and she told me that Gaven had diarhea that day, I was thinking that maybe I should take him to the doctor just to be safe. (He has been congested since Tuesday which is interrupting his night sleep. We fed him peas for the first time on Tuesday night, and that’s when he started to have congestion. That night, he woke up every couple hours crying. We were worried if he was allergic to peas, so we stopped giving him peas. At least, until he is not congested anymore. For the next few days, he still had his congestion and waking up at nights.) I called John who was still at work, and he thought we should take him to the doctor too. So I went straight to the doctor’s office before heading home.

The doctor checked his temperature, checked his ear pressure and cleaned his ears. I was, at that time, very scared. Gaven was screaming in tears when the doctor cleaned his ears. I couldn’t help but tear up as well. With all the questionings from the doctor, it made me wonder if Gaven is seriously ill. But of course, at the end, we found that Gaven is alright. The doctor said, everything is normal. So her conclusion is.…. Gaven is teething…. and growing. She said he has been sleeping a lot because he is growing. The diarrhea? From swallowing mucus from his congestion and his drool from teething. She said we could give him tylenol or teething tablets if it continues to bother him. To help with his congestion, we should suck his nose, use a humidifier in his room and use saline to loosen the mucus, which we have been doing. We didn’t think the teething is bothering him, so we didn’t give him any of that.

So glad to hear everything is alright with him. There is probably nothing for us to worry about but we just wanted to be safe since we are both first time parents. Also, we fed him peas for the first time, it makes us wonder if that contributed to the reason for his congestion. The doctor did say that we should hold off giving him peas for a few months. Although he is congested, he is still a happy smiley baby. So we probably should know that he is not ill.

John continues to suck his nose using this little nose sucker to help clear his airway. This thing is really helpful. It does suck a lot of his mucus out each time.

Since, he hasn’t gotten any better and it has been a week, John took him to the doctor again today. She showed John how to suck his nose and apparently you are supposed to stick it deep inside his nose. He now screams when John sucks his nose but it does help him breath better. The doctor uses this:
