We gave Gaven his first solid a couple weeks after his 5 month birthday. We first started him at around 4 months, but he is not having it. He was fussing and screaming so we stopped giving him rice cereal. A month later, we started him with rice cereal again. This time around, he is finally getting it. He knows to open his mouth when the spoon is near his mouth. He did spit out a few times though.
It’s been a few weeks since we started him with rice cereal (we give it to him once a day). Although he is doing well compared to last time, he still fusses here and there when we give him rice cereal. I am not sure what the deal is. I read that usually babies start to enjoy it after 3 – 4 days but not in his case. He doesn’t seem to make much progress with it. He sometimes refuses to open his mouth and fusses a lot. Maybe he doesn’t like the rice cereal we gave him? He usually does very good during the first few spoonfuls, then he starts fussing and refusing food. I think I am going to get a different kind of rice cereal to see if he will like it better. Hopefully that will solve it. Maybe he just doesn’t like to eat rice cereal altogether?
I am planning to start him with pureed vege and fruit once he turns 6 months. Will see how he does.
UPDATE: He is now doing so much better since we switched out the brand. Still not entirely sure if that’s the reason he didn’t like eating solid though. Perhaps he just needed more time to adjust to eating from a spoon. Whatever it is, don’t think we will purchase the first brand anymore. Why take the chance?
