6 months update

So much has happened in Gaven’s 6th month. I want to pen them down (or should I say type them out) before I forget. I am not sure how to organize it so I am just going to throw it all out there in bullet points in no particular order:

- Gaven is crawling pretty good now. He is not fast fast, but he gets to where he wants to be.

- He is sitting up pretty good, without any support

- This one amazes me. He can sit up from his crawling position or laying down position. He can sit and then crawl, and then sit. Or when I lay him down in his crib, he rolls over and moves around to a sitting position.

- He is also more curious about the stuff around him. Things he never noticed before, he now tries to reach out and grab them. The other day, our baby monitor lost signal. So John went in to his room to check the camera and found him tugging on to the wires. Now we need to move the camera up to a higher position so he can't reach it. Maybe this will be a project this weekend.

- Since he is mobile now, we also started baby proofing the kitchen cabinets. We still have lots more things to baby proof. We bought these type of child locks for our kitchen cabinets.

- He screams. He likes to do this high pitched scream where you don’t know if it was a happy scream or a unhappy scream.

- He sometimes still sleeps with his butt up in the air, but it’s less often now. I miss this sleeping position of his. IMG_0027 (2)

- He is eating more solids now. To date, he has tried oatmeal, rice cereal, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, avocado (which he hates), banana, pears (he doesn’t like) and carrots (impartial).

- We got him a walker, but he doesn’t quite know how to use it yet. He moves a little backward and forward but I don’t think he intends to move it. He sometimes get too excited that he accidentally pushes the walker.

- Changing him is getting harder and harder because as soon as you lay him down on the changing table, he rolls over and sits up. Sometimes he even tries to stand up holding on to the side bar. photo(5)photo(6)photo(7)IMG_0014 (3)

- His top 2 teeth have finally cut through.

- He loves to be in our bed. He started laughing excitedly as soon as you lay him down on our bed. He’ll instantly roll over and crawl all over.

- Gaven has been admitted to the ER twice in a week. He had 104 fever which scared the hell out of us. We immediately sent him to ER at the local hospital here. Tylenol and Motrin seems to help reduce his fever but only for a few hours. The doctor discharged us after a negative blood and urine test results. He told us he caught some viral infection from other kids. The sickness just needs to run its course. After 2 days of high fever, which we gave him Tylenol / Motrin to keep his fever down, we decided to take him to the pediatrician office. After some tests, she advised us to send him to the Children's' Hospital ER. So off we went again. Poor guy got poked and probed multiple times for more tests, to finally confirm that it is indeed a viral infection. It is by far, the scariest thing that had happened to him. I was worried sick and thought there was something seriously wrong with him. The ER doctor told us if this is how we are going to react to his sickness, wait till he breaks his first bone. I can’t even imagine what a wreck I would be! So his fever lasted 4 days. He continues to have sore throat, congestion and coughing with phlegm. Can’t wait for him to get all better!

My 31st Birthday

My birthday was boring this year. John took me to Lazy Dog Cafe for dinner and that’s about it. No flowers, no party, no friends, no getaways. Nothing. Na-da! He did get me a very nice gift though, which sort of made up for it Rolling on the floor laughing

Also, what makes this year’s birthday celebration stands out? GAVEN of course!

Can you guess what I got for my birthday present from my Hubby?

Notice how when he does something nice, he is referred as the “Hubby” and on normal days, he is John? Winking smile

This week, I have this overpowering guilt for not spending enough time with Gaven - this guilt for sending him to daycare. When he tries to get out of my arms or when he doesn’t respond to me when I try to make him laugh, I was certain that he hates me for sending him to daycare.

Any working moms out there feel the same way? Or is this nutso me over thinking stuff again? I hope this is just a temporary feeling because this is not fun. Maybe I feel this way this week because it’s Gaven’s first week at new daycare. An actual daycare place with other kids that seek care from a total stranger so their parents can go to work. Gaven has been under our friend’s care for close to 3 months since my parents left. This was a temporary arrangement until we found the daycare we like and trust. Hence, the transition to new daycare this week.

When I dropped Gaven off yesterday, I saw this 2 year old boy crying sitting on the floor asking for his mommy. He kept on saying “I want my mommy, I want my mommy”. It was heartbreaking to watch. I tried to cheer him up by saying that he has Gaven to play with. I see him in the mornings when I drop Gaven off (since Monday, so 4 days so far), he always looks happy and excited to be there. I was surprised to see him so upset yesterday morning. It makes me wonder if Gaven ever feels the same way? If he could talk, will he be crying and ask for his mama? Gaven always seem very happy and smiley when I drop him off. As soon as we put him on the floor, he started crawling, grabbing toys and stuff them in the little mouth of his. Smile

This morning, however, Hayden (the little boy that cried yesterday) looked very happy and can’t wait to play with Gaven when we arrived. Maybe there are just days that kids are extra clingy to their parents and there are days that they just want to be with their friends and have fun. Who knows what they are thinking?

I hope I will stop feeling this guilty and stop thinking that Gaven hates me for sending him off.
