This year, we took on the challenge to host our family Thanksgiving dinner. John woke up bright and early to prepare the turkey. He did most of the cooking while I walked around and supervised. No, wait. I did do something by looking for recipes. He executed it. He did an awesome job. Gotta give him credit for slaving in the kitchen all day including washing the dishes and getting the house cleaned for guests!
Here’s our 20 lb turkey!!! He prepared it the night before, so in the morning, all he needed to do is just to tie the legs together, cover the breast with foil and pop it in the oven.
Half way thru the roasting process, he pulled the turkey out to take the foil out and baste with more butter. Turkey picture shown above was 1/2 way completed. Looking pretty good…..
Then the rest of the day got crazy, and I forgot to take pictures. He also made cornbread stuffing, gravy (which turned out to be too salty- he blamed it on the recipe :P), roasted carrots & mashed potatoes. We had pumpkin cheesecake and brownies for dessert which I had made a couple days before.
One thing I learned from hosting is- it’s not fun. Probably because we have no experience in hosting. We were so busy slaving in the kitchen that we had no time to entertain our guests. I wouldn’t mind doing it again though. Maybe next time we will do better! We still have plenty of turkey leftover which we have been eating every single night. Sick of turkey!
