Let’s join in the fun!

Our BBQ dinner was so good that the firefighters decided to join us for dinner!  They can smell our delicious savory korean BBQ beef short ribs from miles away! Yes, the smell was so strong that they showed up at our front door. Yes, it’s the smell that attracted them but unfortunately, not our savory beef short ribs that attracted them. How can it be when it wasn’t even put on the grill yet? Yes, it was fire. It was the thick black smoke that they were coming for. So apparently, we almost set the house on fire last Sunday. John heated up the grill to burn off the excess fat that was accumulating at the bottom of the pan before we placed our pre-marinated korean BBQ short ribs on the grill.

We then walked away and watched our tv show HGTV Design Star Challenge, while enjoying our homemade salad. Minutes later, we heard somebody rang our doorbell followed by several loud knocks on the door. A neighbor had came to tell us our backyard is on fire! John slammed the door, hurried to backyard and quickly hose down the BBQ grill that was causing black thick smoke in the air. By the time I made my way to the backyard, the fire was hosed down completely. The neighbor knocked on the door again not knowing how serious the fire was since John slammed the door on him. John then explained that it was just the BBQ grill and that everything is under control. He had already called the fire dept. about the fire and had to cancel the call. The fire truck was already on their way here because they are that efficient. We can hear the siren coming our way and we knew it was too late to cancel it. We didn’t realize the commotion that we had caused until we stepped out the house. Cars and passerby were standing outside our house to witness the “so-called” fire they thought that was going on at our house. What a crowd we had created! ;-) prettayyyy embarrassing…. so we had to explain to them that it was just the BBQ grill. When the fire truck showed up, we explained again what happened.

When everyone starting to leave one by one realizing that there is nothing to see, we went back to our backyard to clean up the mess. We were very thankful to the guy that knocked on our door to let us know about the fire and called the fire dept. Had we let the grill burn any longer it might have burned the propane tank and exploded. We didn’t realize all this was going on because we were in the front room (living room) watching tv since we are still waiting on our sectional to arrive in our family room.

The burnt BBQ grill…. John pulled the bottom pan out and realized so much greased trapped beneath! eww… so that’s what caused the fire.

John hosing it down to prevent future fire. We learned our lesson and made it a point to clean the pan out after 3 times of use.
