**** I have this post sitting in my draft.. totally forgot to post this and now he is almost 15 months! Arghh… where did the time go? Little munchkin is no longer a baby! He is a toddler! My little man….****
I really don’t know how to update his monthly progress anymore. Whenever I see a major milestone from Gaven, I blog about it instantly. So this monthly update may just be small little milestones from him and a summary of his major milestones.
Here goes:
Books- He begins to show interest in books starting a few weeks ago. He grabs books from the shelf and hands it to us to read it to him. Sometimes he has the patience to sit through the whole book reading session and sometimes not. Before we finish reading the book to him, he is ready to get out of the chair and go grab another book. So I think it is the idea of grabbing the books and bringing it to us to read to him that interests him. But hey! It’s a good start! It is also usually at this time (book reading), he holds his straw bottle and chugs his milk.
Sleep- His bedtime is usually 7-7:30 pm. If we are out and about, then he will be put to bed later around 8 or 9 depending what time we get home. We usually try not to deviate from his usual bedtime. He gets really tired when its past his bedtime and we also noticed that he is not the happiest camper the next day. Since summer is coming and it doesn’t get dark till 8 or 9, we are going to try to push his bedtime to a little later, around 8pm. We still bring him to bed with us in the morning, usually around 6am. And he sleeps with us till we are ready to get up to go to work. Although many had warned not to bring your child to bed with you, its like a big taboo… we are actually happy to be able to cuddle with him. It’s ok though, we are at peace with our decision. I’ll live with it if he wants to sleep with us even after he turns 9 or 10. He sleeps almost all night by himself anyway (we kept telling ourselves that to make us feel better).
Nap- We slowly transitioned him from 2 naps a day to 1 nap a couple weeks ago. He is able to stay awake for longer period of time now, so many times, his 10am nap is pushed to 11 or 12, which is cutting close to his lunch time. Penny also told us that he can’t fall asleep during the first nap, he would just toss and turn the whole time. So she stoped putting him down for the first nap. It is also easier for her since they have more activities going on to keep Gaven occupied. With us during the weekends, he sometimes skips the first nap and sometimes doesn’t. So I would say he is still in the transition period.
Talk- He likes to repeat words after us, so we’ve heard him say banana, shoes, diapers, bath time and etc. I have heard him say shoes in chinese before when he try to repeat after me. He definitely understands a lot of the words we say now.
Shoes- He loves to put them on. He knows he needs his shoes before he goes out. We tell him to go get his shoes and he would go and get his shoes and bring them to us to put them on for him. He tries to put them on himself but of course, he has difficulty doing it. He knows to take his shoes off when he enters the house. A good start.
Potty- He has pooped and peeed many times in the toilet now. He usually asks us take him to the toilet after his meals by going to the bathroom door and trying to open it. When he is sitting there, he tries to poop and it is usually successful! If we don’t take him to the toilet, he would poop in his diaper. So he still has a long ways to go before he is fully potty trained. But I must admit, I am pretty darn proud already that he started potty in the toilet at 13- 14 months of age.
Personality- He is a little social butterfly. He says hi to anyone. When we are at the store or out anywhere, he says hi to people near him and wave to them. He makes conversation with people and most people will respond to him. He is such a little ham.
Here he is holding up his baby monitor pretending like he’s talking on the phone. He does that with our tv remotes too.
Here he is getting into all kinds of mischief…. what is it with baby and dishwasher?
